After reading the reviews and realizing that most of the positive ones were 5 years old (2004), I was really wondering if I had made a mistake. I had to go through several DVD’s before I found the match. Calling the Sylvania 1 800 number on the top of the player/recorder gave me great customer service. The call was picked up quickly, I had the rep walk me through the error messages. All my of my DVD’s resulted in error messages, so I was politely asked if I would be willing to be put on hold while the rep did some research. After a few minutes, he came back (thanks Jason) with a list of makes and types that would work. Looked for them on-line and found them right away. Delivered today and I’ve been recorded from the TV to vhs, from the TV to DVD, from DVD to VHS and from VHS back to DVD. I also recorded music Cd-r and video on a dvd-r on my laptop and they played beautifully. Quick setup because I had an old sylvnia VHS recorder and DVD player so the remote and the front panel are almost exactly the same. Just swapped out the old one and I was ready to go — with the right DVD’s. and here they are: Fujifilm DVD-R, 4X. Yes, you can get a lemon, but my DVR90VE came from Discounts Jungle, is refurbished and comes with a 90-day warranty so I recommend them as well. Hope this helps. Happy New Year!
