This is an easy-to-use inexpensive combo unit. The color is very good. The sound is not that great but the unit can be hooked up to good speakers and that takes care of that issue. It’s pretty much a no-fuss no-muss kind of thing that we bought as an interim unit while we’re debating the relative merits of LCD and plasma. The only other thing that’s a pain is that with our cable provider we wind up having to use two remotes.

This is just the TV I was looking for..I needed a replacement for the kitchen counter TV. This was it…it has smart sound (no more LOUD!!!..commercials!!)..smart picture, an adjustment for W-I-D-E screen viewing of movies,an equalizer for optimum sound quality..head phone jack for personal listening.
This price was much less than I could find anywhere else on line or in stores..I would highly recommend this TV!!

I purchased via a different online vendor (sale plus another discount paid for the shipping) – the TV’s box was well-packed with Styrofoam and the box took a beating (ala UPS) – but no damage to the unit. I’ve had the unit about 3 weeks and thus far, I have no complaints – nor do I expect any (fingers crossed, of course). As another reviewer noted, the remote is basic – very basic, but functional. I too was slightly disappointed with a few of the input limitations, however there are a host of alternatives with which to tinker 
I’m not particularly impressed with the stand – it “looks” nice, but it sure doesn’t feel very stable – the base is plastic, a rather thin-feeling plastic, at least to me. If the unit is never going to be moved, I suspect it’s a safe set-up, however if there is any chance of the thing being moved regularly (e.g., plugging items into the back where all the input jacks are housed) or perhaps reachable by small children, I’d vote for securing the thing to the wall or whatever it is housed in – just to be safe.
The picture is as clear as any other 1080’s I’ve seen, but I haven’t viewed my unit right next to another, therefore my observation is just that, my personal observation. The sound is much better than I expected – at times I’ve caught myself looking over my shoulder or similar as I’ve heard the “smaller sounds” quite clearly – a crackle of a tree branch has made me look to see what I broke or dropped
Sure, I wished the remote and the units itself had a few more “perks” (e.g., the time on the display….who knew I’d ever miss it?), but for the steal/price, I simply cannot find enough to whine about to make me regret the purchase. I’m not a big Magnovox fan – I’m a Sony-aholic….but truth be told, if it didn’t say Magnavox on the unit, I’d be none the wiser!

I was hoping to find a remote for my unit when I came across the reviews and just had to add my two cents worth! Don’t remember when, how much or where I bought my system but it’s been at least 3 years and no problems at all. I use the VCR the most as I find all the extra stuff on DVD’s a waste of time. (Better they add another movie to use up the space!) My only complaint about the MDW2205 (besides not having a remote and that’s thanks to a !*&* burglar!) is that it doesn’t play photo CD’s. Otherwise. it plays great and I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of it.

I, like most people, have always been skeptical of “remanufactured” products. However, this one is definitely worth the price (and then some).
I was in need of another combo unit when the one I had died and I hadn’t transferred all tapes to DVD. I didn’t really want to spend that much for a unit, but the “remanufactured” option was within the budget.
I have to say that this was money well spent. Not only to do you get a quality 4-head VHS player/recorder, but you also get a stunningly-versatile DVD player/burner. With 6 months of life left in my old combo unit, the VHS tapes played back with lines through the screen; hardly a quality you want when transferring tapes to DVD. Some of the tapes weren’t even played that much, and sure “tape” over time will continue to degrade, but you should still get a decent picture from a tape in good condition. The 4-head VHS player brought the quality of the tape back to life.
Perhaps the best feature I’m crazed about is the DVD chapter editing feature. Of course when you record a program, chapters will automatically be added per your selected setting options (every 5…10…15min) from the menu; however, prior to finalizing your disc, you can review the chapter markers and edit them as you choose (add, move to new location or remove completely); something my old unit didn’t do.
Finally, when I purchased this item, shipping was slated for at least 5-7 business days since it was coming from a third-party distributor. I ordered it on 1/25, it was shipped on 1/26 and I received it on 1/27 — SWEET!! The shipping time enabled me to receive the unit, set it up, review the features and had me recording and dubbing by the weekend.

This vcr/dvd recorder works fine to suit my needs. It plays and records onto vhs tapes and dvd. It also transfers videos to dvd discs, a longer-lasting format. It’s pretty easy to learn how to use. You can split the dvd’s into different chapters, but I couldn’t skip to the next chapters during playback, unless I split into different titles. All in all, the machine has worked fine for the year of so I’ve had it. I’m using it right now to transfer the last of my vhs tapes. Worth buying.
