Zenith’s second-generation DVD recorder includes a full-function VHS VCR so you can archive VHS footage to long-life DVD or choose between recording your favorite TV shows to tape or disc. It can record to DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW discs, storing audio in 2- or 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound, and it features a variety of video editing functions. Its progressive-scan DVD playback abilities include compatibility with DVDs, CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs, and CDs loaded with MP3 music files.

The combo unit saves space while simplifying your entertainment hookups, and its handy front-panel audio/video jacks simplify connections with camcorders and video-game consoles. Inputs include composite-video (with accompanying stereo analog RCA inputs), RF coaxial (accommodating antennas and older VCRs), and a front-panel digital-video input. The recorder digitizes your video sources in high-quality MPEG-2 (the same format used for commercial DVDs), with either 2- or 5.1-channel Dolby Digital encoding for the audio.

Recording features include disc project creation, title delete, A-B delete, program move, chapter/program combine, auto/manual chapter creation, and file naming.

Playback features include 4x and 16x moveable zoom, variable high-speed scan (2x, 4x, 16x, and 100x), parental locks, bookmarking, 20-track CD programming, and repeat and resume play. The XBR413 is also equipped to deliver the full potential of your commercial and recordable DVDs when viewing on a high-definition or HD-ready TV. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Interlaced composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

The VCR section offers 4 heads (for clear slow-motion and stop-action features) and stereo sound. The deck’s 19-micron video heads maintain clarity during recording or playback in EP (extended play) mode, auto digital tracking adjusts for optimal picture settings for every tape you load, and auto clock set maintains the correct time and even adjusts for daylight savings. You can’t program the unit to record at specific times, but it does come with a handy Instant Recording button.

For the simplest hookup with your TV, you can use a single RCA composite-video connection to handle both DVD and VCR outputs. If you want a higher-quality connection from the DVD player, you can use a component- or S-video cable to an additional input on your TV (the VCR image requires a composite-video or RF connection with your TV). You can choose between an optical and a coaxial digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to your Dolby Digital- or DTS-decoding audio/video receiver.

If you don’t have a surround receiver or 6-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: the unit simulates surround sound through 2 speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

What’s in the Box
DVD recorder/VCR, remote control, 2 AAA batteries, a user’s manual, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, an S-video cable, an RF coaxial AV cable, a registration card, and warranty info.

#Interesting comment about this product.
I bought this and had trouble at first making the dvd’s play on my other dvd players and computer. I then realized( thru 24 hour tech support) that I didnt finalize it correctly and now they work on all my dvd players and comp[uters . My complaint was they didnt all finalize easily. Some did, others had trouble so I returned it, as tech support said my player was defective. But I think if you got one that worked well and finalized correctly, it is a fabulous and reasonably priced item to have for burning old home videos and kids video.

#Interesting comment about this product.
I was looking for a smallish DVD/VCR home theater system for my bedroom at home, and was surprised to find that there weren’t too many choices out there. This Zenith system fits the bill, and performs pretty well, considering the price.

Firstly, setup was easy; I had no problems with the manual (actually didn’t have to refer to the manual very much), and had the system up and running in about 15 minutes.

DVD video quality using progressive scan and component video is excellent on my 32″ Proview LCD TV. Audio isn’t great, but I didn’t expect superb quality with this system. However, it is good enough, with nice bass from the subwoofer. This is a good system for a small apartment or bedroom, since the audio won’t be overpowering for a small space. One complaint is that there aren’t any equalizer settings; in fact, you can’t even adjust bass or treble. Another complaint is that the search function is clunky–press the search button once, and you skip to the next track; press and hold, and you can search; in order to increase the speed of the search, you have to repeatedly press and hold, which is a slow process.

VCR works well, with fast rewind and fast-forward. Quality is fine. Radio also works well (at least FM; AM is staticky, which I presume is due to interference from the TV or possibly the theater unit itself).

I wasn’t able to compare this unit directly with other similar systems, but I did see some bad reviews for Magnavox and Philips (my last Philips DVD/VCR standalone constantly ate tapes). But so far, I’m pretty satisfied.

I decided on writing this review after I needed a replacement for the remote. Well my son finally wrecked the remote and after about 1 yr of his direct use it still functions despite the random pressing and stopping and pausing (mainly DVD function) THIS UNIT STILL WORKS GREAT.

PS My son is almost 4yrs old……..

Zenith XBV713 DVD VCR Combo

PRODUCT FEATURES:DVD/VCR progressive scan 480p output for excellent image qualityAuto-dub personal video from DVD to VCRProvides convenient DVD video start-up

After having my Sanyo VCR for over 13 years, it finally decided to stop working. I mainly use VCRs for recording programs, and this seemed to be the one to replace it. I received it over two days early (which was great). I opened it up and loved the simplicity of the design and the layout. Anyone can use this. The DVD quality is outstanding!! The VCR quality is also spot on, however there were two minor issues. When I recorded over an older TV program I noticed that it didnt delete the first 10 seconds of sound from the older program, so when you would play it back you could hear the older program playing in the background for like 10 seconds, however its not the end of the world. Lastly I didnt realize it didnt have a coaxial inlet or outlet, however it comes with the RCA cords, and almost all cable boxes have RCA outlets. This works so much better than most other VCR/DVD players these days. I highly recommend purchasing this product.

Magnavox DV225MG9 DVD Player and 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR

DVD player and Viideo tape recorder without tuner

This is a great DVD/VCR and works very well. I knew that it did not have a TV tuner, which I figured was no problem, since I have satellite and would have to go through the box anyway. However, since there is no tuner, there isn’t a coaxial connector on the back, only RCA. So, if you have an old TV that only has a Coaxial connector, don’t buy this unless you also buy a RF Modulator.

I have used this product for 1 year and I had no problems what so ever with this product. I use it to play DVDs and MP3 CDs.. with MP3 CDs it allows you to browse folders on TV screen, create playlists etc..so you have more control over songs you play.. If you have S-Video on your TV then you can hook this player directly using S-Video assuring you best of DVD Quality becuase its Digital Direct instead of going through Digital –to Analog conversion using regular RCA Cables.

One thing I liked it that its Remote is universal, it can control your TV also, all you have to do is put your TV Model code and you have single remote for TV and this player.

Overall I liked this player.
